The County Courts exist under different rules than the State or City Courts.  County Judges are selected by partisan vote every 4 years at the same time as the Governor’s race.  Should a vacancy occur in one of these Courts, Harris County Commissioners Court appoints a replacement until the next election.  As with all other County employees, there is no mandatory retirement age for County Court judges. .
